Nepal's early history was shaped by various dynasties and empires, including the Licchavi and Malla dynasties, which were known for their elaborate architecture and artistic traditions.The Malla period, which lasted from the 12th to the 18th century, saw the development of the Newari artistic style, which is characterized by stunning wood, stone and bronze masterpieces. 

Lumbini is where Siddharta Gautama, Buddha, was born in the 6th-5th century BC. Today it's a pilgrim center where Buddhist from all over the world come in search of peace and self-actualization. 

The capital of Nepal, Kathmandu, is an eye popping experience, a riot of sights, sounds and smells that can make your senses explode. It serves as the home of more than half of the population of Nepal. 

Nepalis worship young pre-pubescent girls for manifesting divine female energy, incarnations of Goddess Taleju, known as Durga in India or the Buddhist Goddess Vajradevi. There are several Kumaris throughout Nepal, but the best known is the Royal Kumari of Kathmandu.
