Cover for the linga in the form of the head of Shiva
18th C AD
Maharashtra or Karnataka
This bronze covers would have been placed over the linga between periods of puja/worship, as the linga represents as well the creative as destructive power of Shiva. Shiva, identified by his 3th eye, is here represented in a popular way as a prince with moustach and pearced ears for his jewelry.
