wood and beige/gold lacquer, black lacquer inside

The shape is slightly conical with the sides turned up. The outside with beige-coloured tatakinuri (mat pebbly texture) and kuyo mon in gold lacquer. The inside is black lacquered with gyobu. In the middle a small cushion is attached with two thick silk cords. Storage box included with an inscription on top. The kuyo mon is the Japanese crest of nine planets, it is the symbol of the Navagraha, the nine planets in Hindy astrology, Sun, Moon, Mars, Jupiter, Mercury, Venus, Saturn and the lunar nodes Rahu and Ketu. Japanese people believe that the Navagraha could protect them against evils.
